We live in an age where the majority of the world’s population has access to some kind of telecommunication with the outside would. As a result, the world has become a smaller world where the happenings on the other side of the globe can be made known in an instant. Media platforms such as Twitter give users the ability to take control of content and to disperse it an unlimited sized audience without the barrier of gatekeepers. The media platform Tumblr is another example of this however gives users no word limit. As a result, Tumblr has been one of the forefront websites of user-generated content that has been able to bring awareness to issues that otherwise may not be publicised in legacy media or looking at story from legacy media from a different or oppressed point of view.
This topic was fitting for me to launch my digital artefact for my bcm112 task as it explores how Tumblr, and how its user-generated content is bringing awareness to social issues such as gender rights, racism, sexism, lgbtqia+ rights, homelessness and many more. I know Tumblr has a reputation of going over the top with its arguments, so with this I wanted to focus on the true issues and show how Tumblr can be a catalyst for change.
